Diabetes

Diabetes has given me thick skin!
I had a nerve test done over winter break on my arm to figure out if I had CTS (and it turned out I had Pronator Syndrome instead!) and the doctor stuck a big ol' needle in my arm over and over (and over...and over...). He said, "Have you been diabetic for a long time? I can tell...your skin is like puncturing a grapefruit. Most people are like tangerines."
Huh!

  1. Oh you poor thing, that's terrible! It makes an adorable story, but that's probably not much consolation. I hope your Diabetes and Pronator Syndrome don't affect your life negatively too much!

  2. Haha thank you for your concern! I've had type 1 diabetes for a decade now and I'm proud to say I manage it excellently, so there's really not too much to worry about there!
Pronator has been ANNOYING to say the least, but I had a minor surgery now and it's healing beautifully and I can draw again, so I'm very thankful!

    1. Caroline, wow!!! The internet is incredible, I can't believe that you are able to be in contact with my dad and even me haha! Thanks so much for your comment.

I'm sorry your son has the same unfortunate ailment! It is difficult and can be frustrating but I always try to remind myself how much worse it could be, and to be thankful for the AMAZING convenience modern medicine is and to be born in this day and age.

Thanks again. Wish I could meet you and your son in person!

You sound a sensible and talented young lady and I am sure you will have a bright future. It must be fun studying character animation in California:)

  10. hey Hannah, yet one more of your Dad's classmates! My name is Salma! I was with him in class one year only. Looking at your cute post about that doc up there, I couldn't help but think: but grapefruits are stronger than tangerines!! I'd love to hear more about what you're studying, it must be GREAT FUN! I'll ve visiting your blog every now and then to say hello! I live in Italy by the way, so, if ever you go on a European tour, think of making a stop here, I'd love to meet you! XX

  11. (it's me, Salma, again, when I tried to post, the system gave me the option of "anonymous" or "name and URL"...I don't like "anonymous", but I don't have an URL address! Do you think that, if I wrote something like www.noURL.com, would it take? Or would it create problems for your page?! Funny how the system works, when giving two words to copy, it said, "prove you're not a robot"...I was tempted to say real silly things...not on your blog, naturally, but to the program itself! Anyways, sorry for the ranting spree here, have a great weekend, and looking forward to staying in touch :-) )

    1. Hahaha, your comments made me laugh Salma!! LOL I like the URL you chose :)
You know, my sister and I have been scheming and fantasizing for the past year about backpacking in Europe Summer 2013! If that happens you will be the first person we contact :D

    2. Hi again! You know what I ended up writing? This: www.myurlisasecrethaha.com :-) (in ordinary circumstances, I'd have written something naughtier but I didn't want your dad to be on my case so I behaved :-)) If you do backpack through Europe 2013, then please let me know beforehand, we can arrange it so you'd make a stopoever here (I live halfway between Milan and Venice, in the North)I have an extra room (thank Heavens you told me now because it would take that long to put it in order for guests :-)) it has only one single bed, but there's a sofa in the living room, and, if you have a sleeping bag, so both of you could stay over! This part of Italy is stupendous! I could speak a mile about it! Of course, it all depends on how long your entire trip will be and how much of it in Italy. I suggest a good portion, as it's a beautiful country! You'd want to see Venice and Florence and Rome, but a stop in Verona is still worth it! Nearby, is the city alleged to be home of Romeo And Juliet, with loads of Roman monuments, and there's a gorgeous lake (Garda) with loads of small towns all around it (my little town is a 15 minute drive from the lake), and, there is, of course, my balcony! You girls could also help me take revenge on my neighbor downstairs who sits some 25 hours a day in front of a play station barking. And, there is, of course, the famous cremino ice cream that I was telling everybody about, which is worth the trip from Texas :-))). (It would be GREAT to meet you two!!) :D (I think I'll put another URL this time, unless the system refuses it saying: HEY! Wasn't it "myurlisasecrethaha"?! We'll see! :-)))

    4. I'm counting on it! Yesterday I was making plans all morning inside my head! "If the girls have one day, we'd do this...if they have two, we'd do that...if three,..."etc. :-) I'm really looking forward to it! :-))) (by the way, the "system" did not let me change "my URL", so I'll just stick with that one!)
